Sierra Club Endorses Stephanie Vazquez for Pasco County Commission
Endorsement recognizes Vazquez’s commitment to protecting Pasco’s land, water, wetlands, and natural spaces
PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Stephanie Vazquez, candidate for Pasco County Commission District 2, announced today that her campaign has earned the endorsement of the Sierra Club.
The Sierra Club is a nationwide grassroots environmental organization that has worked for more than 130 years to protect public lands, safeguard clean air and water, preserve wildlife, and advance clean energy solutions.
“I’m incredibly proud to earn the Sierra Club’s endorsement,” Vazquez said. “There is so much worth protecting here in Pasco, from our wetlands and watersheds to our conservation lands, wildlife habitats, and remaining natural spaces. As our county continues to grow, we need commissioners who will plan ahead and make protecting these resources part of every growth decision.”
Vazquez has made responsible growth a central focus of her campaign. She believes Pasco County must more carefully evaluate how proposed development will affect the surrounding environment, drainage and flooding, water resources, wildlife, infrastructure, and residents’ quality of life.
“We should not have to choose between a strong local economy and protecting the land and water our families depend on,” Vazquez said. “We can grow responsibly, but that requires leaders who are willing to consider the full impact of development, preserve environmentally sensitive land, protect our water, and say no when a proposal would leave residents paying the price.”
As county commissioner, Vazquez will advocate for:
Protecting Pasco’s wetlands, watersheds, conservation areas, wildlife habitats, and rural lands
Making responsible land-use planning a priority as the county grows
Considering the cumulative effects of development before approving additional projects
Protecting and strengthening funding for land conservation
Ensuring new development does not worsen flooding in surrounding communities
Advancing practical clean-energy and energy-efficiency solutions
Giving residents a stronger voice in decisions affecting their communities and natural surroundings
“Once these lands and natural spaces are gone, we cannot simply bring them back,” Vazquez said. “The decisions we make today will shape Pasco for generations. I’m grateful to the Sierra Club for recognizing my commitment and for placing its trust in this campaign. I’m ready to fight for a future where Pasco can grow without losing the very things that make it such a special place to call home.”
